Driving a Culture of Safety: Proconics Celebrates Achievements and Recognition
Proconics took another significant step in reinforcing its commitment to safety with a dynamic Safety Culture and Executive Leadership Safety Engagement session at the SunCentral1 Project in De Aar, Northern Cape recently.
Â
This session, led by our Group CEO Melvin Jones, brought together on-site teams and senior leadership to celebrate safety milestones and discuss proactive measures for maintaining an environment where safety, respect, and excellence are the cornerstones of every project.
Â
Other leaders of the session included Environmental Officer Thabo Phetla, and the Director of Projects for Proconics NewFields, Louis Hall. Together, they reinforced the organisation’s steadfast commitment to creating an environment where safety, environmental responsibility, quality, and excellence are at the forefront of every operation.
Â
"At Proconics, respect is a core value on all our sites," said Phetla, who set the tone for the session. "We don't just talk about safety; we live it, every single day."
Â
This principle of respect was emphasised throughout the engagement, ensuring that all on-site personnel understand its critical importance in fostering a safe, productive workplace.
Â
The session was not just an opportunity for leadership to communicate Proconics' values; it also provided a platform to celebrate outstanding safety achievements and recognize the hard work of our contractors.
Â
Hall highlighted this during his address, saying, "Today is about honouring those who go above and beyond to make safety a priority. These contractors set the standard for safety on our projects."
Â
Frank Sprung, Construction Manager for SolarAfrica echoed this sentiment, applauding the proactive safety measures and environmental practices that have been adopted on-site.
Â
Proconics holds regular on-site safety engagements every Monday and Friday, and monthly leadership sessions that include focused safety assessments. These sessions are designed not only to reinforce our commitment to safety excellence but also to provide ongoing support to on-site teams, ensuring that safety always remains the top priority.
Â
A key highlight of the day was the recognition of contractors for their exceptional contributions to safety and environmental responsibility. Special awards were presented to Mokgadi Ramaphoko of Tyris Construction; Christina Nxazonke of Amandla GFC; and Kgaugelo Legora of MKHULU Electro Distribution, for their outstanding safety efforts.
Â
Additionally, MKHULU Electro Distribution was named Contractor of the Month for both environmental and safety excellence, underscoring their commitment to maintaining the highest standards of safety on the project.
Â
The leadership team’s participation sends a strong message about Proconics' dedication to achieving a zero Lost Time Injury (LTI) rate and maintaining environmental legal compliance across all projects.
Â
"Our contractors play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and success of our projects. It’s important to celebrate these achievements because they are a direct result of the teamwork and dedication shown by everyone on-site."
Â
“Visible leadership is critical. Our presence here today reinforces the fact that safety isn’t just a priority - it’s a responsibility we share together," Jones added.
Â
Through these weekly safety engagements and monthly leadership visits, Proconics fosters a culture of respect and collaboration on-site. Our goal is to empower every member of the team to contribute to creating a safe, incident-free environment. This culture of excellence is reflected in our pursuit of 200 days without an incident, setting a benchmark for best practices in the industry.
Â
Looking ahead, Proconics' commitment to Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) excellence and a culture of respect remains unwavering. This commitment is not only company-wide but is a shared responsibility that every employee and contractor upholds.
Â
"We are committed to building a future where respect and safety go hand-in-hand, and with the continued dedication of our teams, we are confident we will reach even greater milestones on our journey to a respectful, safe, and productive work environment," Jones concluded.Â
