Sasol, having worked successfully with Proconics in the past, approached them to assist in converting some of their old format engineering drawings into the modern database format. The older documents included those drawn on board and those developed with legacy systems, such as CAD.
Proconics has extensive expertise in handling the migration of this type of documentation using the SPEL (Smart Plant Electrical) and the SPI (Smart Plant Instrumentation) packages. The company has been using these tools for over 15 years and has developed processes to handle the work to a high standard and this includes the verification and auditing of the drawings to the site installation.
To date, the project has seen the team cover six plants with thousands of IO, and they have handled it brilliantly. The scale of the project may have been something new for the engineers involved, but Proconic’s experts include individuals across all levels of engineering understanding and ability and these skills have seen them manage it seamlessly.
The old brown field systems with their complex designs presented a unique challenge to Proconics, one that really piqued the interest of the team and drove them to deliver a high-quality solution that was tailored to meet the exacting requirements of the client. Today, the project remains a sterling example of how Proconics can handle engineering requirements across any sector.
