The recent Sasol TechnoX career guidance show highlighted the need for engineering companies to educate and inform students about the lucrative jobs available in the STEAMI (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics, and Innovation) sectors.

 

The expo, held from the 14th to the 18th of August at the huge Boiketlong Sports Centre in Sasolburg, was founded over two decades ago to inspire young people to be change agents and to further underline the value of education as the solution to addressing youth unemployment.  

 

Demonstrating our commitment to these ideals, Proconics' active involvement underscored its dedication to fulfilling its responsibility to the profession by engaging with future talent and cultivating the next generation of engineering pioneers.

 

Proconics' exhibit engaged and encouraged young minds to picture their future self in the business by permitting interactive engagements with the learners and inspiring an interest in engineering. Our problem-solving game served as the main point, providing insights into the various prospects available in the engineering sector while also evaluating the participants' critical thinking and inventiveness.

 

The Proconics booth supplemented the game by providing a platform for thought-provoking counsel and Q&A sessions that encouraged learners to think about their interests, strengths, and objectives. When these aspects were merged, they created an immersive and instructive platform for learners to explore the limitless possibilities of engineering jobs.

 

Buti Manamela, Deputy Minister of Higher Education and Training, encouraged learners to apply for courses in the STEAMI sectors that will enable them to help move South Africa forward and praised Sasol for providing young people with information to make career choices that meet the needs of the country at the launch event.

 

Gao Mothoagae, Vice-President of Sasol's Social Impact, stated that the company has held TechnoX for the past 21 years to encourage student awareness of the STEM sector and is delighted to have broadened its focus to include the Arts and Innovation sectors.

 

Lisa Lofele, a learner of Dr Molefi Oliphant Secondary School in Bophelong, Vanderbijlpark,

emphasised the importance of the expo, saying, "This experience has shed more light on the world of engineering, how I can become a part of it, and made me realise that my dream of being an engineer can contribute to solutions that matter."

 

In another interview, Katlego Motumi of Thuto ke Lesedi Technical High School in Zamdela, Sasolburg stated, "I hope to start university next year and study electrical engineering. It was eye-opening to hear about the areas in which my hobbies could have an impact, as well as the function that engineering plays in the renewable energy arena."
